In this talk, David will take us on an illustrated journey through the history of the UK’s senior Jewish secondary school, beginning in 1795 and travelling to its state-of-the-art site in Kenton, via the East End and Camden Town.

A trained English teacher, David Harris was Deputy Head of JFS from 1986 to 2015. Prior to that he taught in various state secondary schools and from 1979 to 1986 was head of the English Department at Park High School in Stanmore. David has also been involved in Jewish education and was the head at Belmont (United) Synagogue Hebrew Classes from 1976 to 1979. He was also one of a team which tutored and mentored new teachers in United Synagogue Hebrew Classes. David is married to Vivien and they live in Kenton where they are active members of the Jewish community. Brought up and educated in Manchester, David is a member of the Manchester United Supporters Trust and the PG Wodehouse Society.
