Heritage Open Day: Culinary Connections at Willesden Jewish Cemetery

On 8th September 2024, despite the predicted rainfall, visitors gathered for a delightful Heritage Open Day themed “Culinary Connections” at Willesden Jewish Cemetery. The event celebrated the rich culinary heritage and vibrant contributions made by the community, bringing together social historians, families and members of the public for a day of exploration and enjoyment.

Attendees embarked on a new guided walk, featuring stories about the Lyons, Gluckstein and Salmon families, Professor Yudkin of “Pure, White and Deadly” fame and the legendary Blooms family.

We then listened to Geoffrey Feld who provided remarkable and entertaining firsthand insights into the Bournemouth Jewish hotels, detailing their rise to fame and subsequent decline.

The day was made even more special by the participation of our volunteers, whose enthusiasm and dedication helped make the event seamless and enjoyable for all.

Heritage Open Day: Culinary Connections was a resounding success, leaving attendees with a deeper appreciation for our heritage and a sense of connection to the past.
