Memorial restorations: second workshop, 18th August

On Sunday, 18 August 2024, we had the second of our memorial restoration workshops. This was a fantastic session with a turn-out of 13 volunteers who worked tirelessly to complete the first section of this children’s graves.

Many of them died during the First World War and the Spanish Flu pandemic, but infant mortality was generally rife, particularly for those living in crowded and poor-quality housing. Some of the graves are unnamed and have become somewhat neglected. Willesden Jewish Cemetery have begun the process of restoration and cleaning. We will be having more sessions in 2025.

We are very grateful to the volunteers and our team who carried out the work last Sunday. Here is feedback from one of the volunteers:

“Thank you for giving us the chance to perform an unusual mitzvah yesterday. It was a truly amazing experience made more so by your warm welcome to us all and by the professional way the staff worked with us the volunteers. “
